I am realatively new to this. I started taking 2xmetformin last wednesday and bought a bg meter yesterday. Tested this morning after fasting and was 12.4, had porridge for breakfast and 2 hours later was18.5. Daft question, should I not eat porridge??? Any advice welcome. Deb
Hi, I am Type 2 and like you I find that porridge makes me go high after 2 hours. I have tried muesli and weetabix and they do the same. I am concidering what I can have for breakfast instead of cereal. Any ideas anyone?
Deb, I would try cutting out the porrige for a bit as it appears to be spiking you a bit.
Incidently, what type of porrige was it? as the precooked instant type will release the carbs far faster than the coarse milled types such as pinhead meal.( I cannot cope with the former but can deal with a small portion of the later :thumbup
Elaine ann, I tend to breakfast on eggs or greek yoghourt & berries
I have porridge oats which I make with half milk and half water with canderel and a teaspoon of honey. Is the honey a bad idea? I just have it to mask the artificial taste of the canderel. I need to lose a LOT of weight and porridge fills me up till lunchtime. I tried to make an appointment with my dn, but can't get one for over 2 weeks. I want to ask about a Desmond course as I feel that I need proper advice.
Cheers, Deb
