Folks,

I had gestational diabetes and was injecting insulin 4 times a day. My little girl is now 9 weeks old and I'm still checking my blood sugars a couple of times a week. Yesterday morning my blood was 6.9 (before breakfast) and this afternoon it's read at 10 (I have been to a kiddies party and eaten a LOT of crisps, carbs and cake).

A recent blood test has shown I have the antibodies for type 1. Should I be concerned about the above reading??

Thanks in advance. Sharon. Xx

Hi Sharon!
I posted asking for advice on exactly the same problem a few days ago, I see you got no replies either?!?!

Did you manage to get any answers elsewhere?
My baby is over 1 now and I am having the same problem with diabetic symptoms and bg on the high side but I am still not sure if its normal to get these levels or if I have reason for concern.
My gd was the third time, previously I was able to diet control, but this time I ended up on insulin 4x a day, like yourself.

My first morning levels are always over 6 but not quite 7, 1-2 hours after eating they are always above 7 but mostly above 9, a lot of them between 10-13. What I am confused about is whether I just happen to catch them at their spiking level, because if I don't eat at ALL for 3-4 hours after a high reading, it will a lot of the time drop to 5-6.
I just don't want to run to my dr and look like an idiot! Lol
Let me know how you got on

Anyone that has been to a kiddies party and eaten a lot of crisps and cake should not be surprised at high blood sugar readings.

The 6.9 in the morning is not disastrous but that's what happens if you have a lot of carbs the day before.

If your two hour readings are always above 7 then that is ok but if they over 8.5 then you may have to look into what you ate.

Not eating for 3-4 hours will usually return a reading that is low. That is not a surprise really.

Both you ladies have had gestational diabetes, and that's an indication that you are on the road to diabetes. If you want an official answer, you'll need to see your doc. and do the tests. But whatever the answer, you would both be wise to take this seriously, and reduce the carbohydrate in your diet now, before things get worse. Many people with and without diabetes eat like this :http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf and find they like it.
