My son is struggling with his diabetes type 1 but his Gp is not listening to him he’s been told if he can show he can manage his diabetes then they will reassess but he’s not managing he works in catering industry and during a 12-14hr shifts he sometimes doesn’t have time to stop and check his blood and do his insulin he wants a pump which would help him enormously with his job but they are refusing to give him one. I can’t intervene as he’s an adult now but he wasn’t diagnosed until he was 17 and it’s been hard for him. Is there anything I can do to help my son.

Does your son have a CGM or Libre?
To be honest, a pump does not stop the need for checking blood sugars and can require more effort. The value of a pump is the ability to take small bolus and to have different basal profile for different times of the day. It is not a silver bullet that will make his life easier or give him less to do.
However, a CGM or Libre may make it easier for him to keep an eye on his levels without as many finger pricks.
