Hello everyone,

Im seeking some advise since i dont know where else to turn.
My girlfriend is a diabetic and the doctors have gave her pills to take every made dose higher since it wasnt working on the lower one. problem is that it still isnt stopping the sugar enough and is causing her to still be in real pain sometimes, mostly passing urine as it cuts and makes her sore.
also she feels bad meeting people since she think that she smells like sugar really bad. she is scared because she thinks the only option she has left would be to inject if she went back to the doctor with it. is there any other options out there than that.

any advise would be greatful

Hi Cruise, and welcome to the forum.I suggest that you get your girlfriend to join this site so she can read all about it herself.

Well Cruise, you can read the site and make suggestions but at the end of the day she is the only one who can take control of her diabetes!!

i'm seventeen, and to be honest injecting is the best? Im type 1 and yeah i would feel apprehensive about it ifi had controled it another way, but, its really not that bad? I'm not fat? I do it four times a day? I can go around without anyone knowing? I can eat what i like? I control it base on what i eat which is good! so chocolate and mcdonalds all the way hehe! If her health is suffering she should really think about it. I have a long acting one before bedtime, and a fast acting before meals. Hontesly, she needn't worry. Im young and very self conscious but i have no problems and no one would even know! needles are so small and painless? sometimes i dont even feel them go in silly sausage! x hope it helps talk to me if she needs to, not that im that experienced. Just if it does come to it, injecting isnt bad hun. Do it in my tummy and legs and yeah sometimes i accidently forget i've done it there and get a little bruise. Bikinis.. oh well! they disappear. And she wont have to worry about meeting new people and smelling and feeling like this I reckon you should tell her this and talk to the doctor about insulin injections because its obviously making her health deteriorate and that isn't good. If anything i get more annoyed the fact people feel sorry for me or think its really bad lol it's just like. What? I dont even mind! x

Hi Cruise

Please get your girlfriend to join the forum and talk to us, she doesnt need to be shy with any of us, after all we are fellow diabetics and chances are some of us have experienced the same problems at one point or another,

Its nice that you can be so supportive to her and you can both learn from our combined wealth of experience.

She needs to test her bg regularly, what does she eat, if she is so sore and has burning pains when she goes to the toilet she should go to her doctor, she may have an infection that requires medication. Does she have a diabetes nurse? If so tell her to go to the clinic and talk about all the problems that she is experiencing, it really does sound as if she does need a whole lot more support than she is getting at the moment. Injecting is not the worst thing that can happen, has she been diagnosed as type 2? If medication and diet dont do the trick for her, then maybe she needs a review of medication/diet, or even a second opinion, is there a slight chance of mis-diagnosis, it does happen now and then, does she do any form of exercise at all, it all needs checking out, and injections are often a last resort when nothing else works, there is no set pattern to it. So off you go and make that appointment now.

All the best to both of you

Karen
