Green beans, like runner beans, not a pulse in sight, other than mine Will knock the gravy on the head!I would say the gravy, and the beans. We need to be careful with pulses, and the gravy depends on how it was made. Bisto or similar? Bisto is high in carbs. Lamb is zero carb (as are most meats and fish) and quite fatty, so on its own shouldn't have done too much damage.
Yes must admit broad beans can contain round 10g of carb per 80g thats about 3 tablespoons.
Any way hope it wasn't the lamb as that's what I'm having tomorrow.
Proteins.... are they in the veg?I agree with gravy and beans. I have yet to find a gravy substitute.
Large amounts of protein, especially fatty ones can raise you too. Proteins need to be moderated.
Exercise can have that effect as well
All that being said, could be alL of the above or the wind blew the wrong way.
Minimal amounts in veg but I was referring to the serving size of the lamb. Animal protein is not an unlimited amount of food. It too needs to be moderated. In general, as a diabetic, there are no free foods. All have effects on bs.
I eat lamb ( and stinking love it ) but I need to stick to moderate amounts. I COULD eat the whole leg in one sitting because I have mastered making it but need to cut it short and remember there is always more for tomorrow
9.1 on rising, then 8.9 after avocado breakfast. Walk around the town shopping, then home for lunch and pre lunch back up to 9.1
1.50 pm Lunch of roast lamb and lots of veg (cabbage, spinach, broad beans, broccoli heads and asparagus, small amount of gravy.
Cycle about 1 mile to work (normally the 5 min route, but took long way).
4pm reading 9.8
5pm 10.1
As I said before I work in a care home, so always on the move.
Does it mean I shouldn't eat lamb again? Or the gravy?
8 raspberries and 6 blueberries, 2 tablespoons of double cream and Greek yogurt for tea and evening tea break (finish work at 10 pm).
Am I worrying too much? But the 10.1 isn't good
Hi. @Brunneria What's the saying 'learning to run before I can walk' I think that's me, no that IS me. I suppose I was expecting the levels to go down after my cycle, up hill lots of the way! This is day 8 of my new me. My weight is down a tiny bit more this morning, so I know I am doing it right.Am I missing something here?
I have re-read your post repeatedly, and I can't see what the problem is.
You are still on your first week or so of low carbs, and it takes time for bg to work its way down.
you had
9.1 fasting
8.9 after breakfast
9.1 pre-lunch
9.8 at 2 hours after food
10.1 at 3 hrs after food
These figures are not a problem for a newbie low carber!!!!
(plus, when you allow for meter inaccuracies, the difference between any of those numbers is insignificant)
They are all between 8.9 and 10.1, which is bloomin amazing for a reaction to food.
There are many experienced low carbers who would kill to achieve a 1.2 variance during the day - including myself.
It looks as if LC is working like a charm for you.
Yes, ALL of those readings are higher than ideal, but you may have been running high for months if not years before this, and your body is probably wondering what the heck is happening, and is pumping glucose (glycogen) out of the liver to boost your bg up to the 9s and 10s because that is what it is used to.
If that is the case, then only time and a consistently low carb diet (or drugs) will let your bg gently drift downwards.
The best thing you can do, at the moment, is to STOP WORRYING.
And please don't cut your portion sizes of low carb foods in the early days.
Hunger is one of the greatest diet breakers there is, so make sure you are comfortably satiated and not hungry.
