Thanks for the reply and the advice. Surely overdoing it a little bit wont harm as long as your sugars are ok and your not drunk!! Will it?? Someone give me some hope!!
My DN said it was ok to drink, but she didnt advocate me going and getting slaughtered!! I was told to eat before and after, some higher carb stuff too. Can I also add that the 5 pints I had was over an 8 hour period, so was drinking very slowly. I was still sober too so in control and felt 100%. Before diagnosis it would have been probably double that, but like I said before, It's not too often I would drink.
I've got my mind set well on the diet aspect of what I should do, but it's just the thought of missing out on a few drinks with friends thats troubling me. (I know it would be ok for one or two, but I would still be stone cold sober by then and the thought of not ever being even slightly tipsy again disturbs me!!)
Luckily I have no symptoms as yet, so feel the same as I have done for years. I just had a reak thirst and checked on my daughters BG machine and I was high, and doctors appointment confirmed I had Diabetes, but still waiting for my initial blood test results etc to come through, so a bit in the dark about things like this because apart from a brief discussion, with the DN, I havent spoke to any other doctors or dietician as yet (Still waiting for my GP surgery to contact me). My sugar was reading HI on the meter at first diagnosis so i'm really glad to have got it down to 6/7 which it seems to be averaging today, and it seems to me that those few pints have helped or am I wrong??!!
