Alcohol - Part of a low BG Strategy??

Patch - I am in a similar situation to you.

I take medication for high blood pressure (have done for decades) and statins.

I drink regularly - but not to excess. I think it is well known that a glass of red wine is good for your health.

I also like to be alcohol free for a couple of weeks at a time every now and again, and have a couple of alcohol free days per week - but like you, I find that if I have a small glass of wine with my meal, it keeps the bg down, doesn't increase bp - and trigs are OK too.

It might explain why my HbA1c readings are lower in January (following a merry month which includes birthdays, wedding aniversary, Christmas and New Year's Eve, when I have put on a few pounds) - than in July, when although at my lightest (pre holiday weight loss!) I haven't been drinking much (again pre holiday on the wagon)

Hi steve
whiskey and diet lemonade does'nt touch my readings. I actually learned this of my sister in law who was following a famous ww diet. She could drink any amount of bicardi and diet coke and she kept losing weight .

Hi JF,

you have confirmed my theory!

Now who's had my gin??

All te best - Steve

I have been having a small glass of red wine each evening. This fits in with my wafarin control as changes of diet upset the INR. It also help lower my BG level I dont think it is likely to cause too big a problem

ALL THINGS IN MODERATION
Probably not for we diabetics

now come on folks just because we can't afford to go to pubs with no atmosphere ,smoke and socialise .It does'nt mean that the aa meetings should be held on this forum      Although you could get your boiler fixed :? 8)
