I used to enjoy going out with my friends and I.like to try all the cocktails since being diagnosed I've been on a bit of a slump not going out getting depressed etc am now thinking of starting going out is there any complications of alcohol when type 2 controlled by metformin ?

Enjoy red wine or spirits with sugar free mixers. Avoid beers.

There is a (rare) complication of lactic acidosis. Does the leaflet with your medication say you should avoid alcohol?

If you check Metformin on the internet it will take you to an NHS page which indicates that you can drink while taking Metafornin. I still drink the odd beer 1 or 2 a week and red wine and scotch and water. The one Drink I have been strictly warned off is Cider by my my DN. Full of Sugar and Carbs

You can drink in moderation while taking metformin but best not get blathered.

It’s St Patrick’s Day . I’m newly diagnosed on500 Metformin a day and I am going out to drown the shamrock today .. is that a very bad idea
