Could someone tell me if I'm eating too much or too little protein? Currently I'm eating around 60g - 70g per day (actual protein, i.e. so 100g of chicken = approximately 30g of protein), based on figures from Bernstein, does this sound about right. I'm 5"2, weigh 7 and a half stone and am 40 years old.

Hi Sirzy, loads of stuff on the internet and that is where most get there info from. Also there are no hard and fast rules, but I personally went with this break down of: weight in kg x by (0.8 not active) or (1.3 active or pregnant) or (1.8 extremely active)

You can work it from there....go luck.

Thanks Gravity-Carb, this works out at about 60 mg for me, so looks like I've been eating about the right amount , I thought I might be over doing it with the chicken!

It can be very confusing as every site you go on says something different but the above formula is a great tool to use.

The are online low carb/ketogenic nutritional calculators s which will work out the proportions of carbs, fats and protein for you depending on your size, age, activity levels, etc, and number of carbohydrates you choose to eat. They'll give you ratios for maintaining, and lose weight at different speeds. The ones I've seen use the same or very similar formulas and one suggests that your protein "allowance" should be for calculated for your ideal/recommended weight and stays static through all the various scenarios.
