not been on for a while have concentrated on lots of experimenting different foods excersise when to take medication etc . first i do not think i have posted i lost the cholestral battle, my initial reading was 6.8 i avoided the statin route trained hard lost weight ate so!! healthily and 6 months later my cholestral was 6!!! .8 drop well i was well peeved and just gave in and went straight on the statin, been on nearly three months no noticeable adverse affect as yet. the following have been my observations to date
1. i have now noticed my high after a carby meal seems to be an hour to an hour and a quarter after finishing the meal i manage most highs with exercise but out of interest after a high of 8.4 on the hour mark without exercise was 6.2 on the hour and three quarter mark (i am pretty much lowish carbs but occassionally fall away)with exercise i would of got that down in the 5s in 5 mins
2. the exercise is unbelievably beneficial i feel the best i have for 25 years my weight is now 16 pound above the advised weight but i think i would look ill at that so i am happy as i am now, i was considered well obese. my knees are amazing my left used to give way going upstairs and i used to have horrific pain and now no problems at all.
3.i used to have bad eczma on my legs which i used to scratch until they bled this has completely gone no more scratching through the night nothing is this down to good bg control ?
4.one thing i have noticed not many seem to take as much met as me my gp had me on 4 X 500mg a day within 6 weeks and now 40mg statin any one else on this kind of dose so soon ?
5. i was diagnosed i think nov last year but not had a hba1c test yet when should i ask for one ?
6.the total lethargy in the afternoons has gone feel pretty energised most of the day
7. would like to thank all postings as all add to knowledge and experience
8. i have moved from fear and despair to hope and optomism

thanks all will post again when i have some new experiences

Hi shirederby!

Really well done on the weight loss and BG control! I wish everyone with diabetes would understand the difference exercise and a lowish carb diet make - it is really useful when members like yourself remember to pop back and tell eveyone how they've got on - it really encourages the newly-diagnosed members.

As for the HbA1c, many areas only do them once a year, but I don't think that's enough. I have mine every 6 months. Why don't you call your surgery and simply make an appointment for your six-monthly review? They probably won't even question it
