I know, no good wailing about it now, but when it was first suggested I had diabetetes it came a s a surprise. It also came as a surprise to my work as well (Blackpool Council) who suggested that far from being an invisible disability, my Manager had no idea what it meant. The result? a 3 hour meeting through a lunchtime without a break. In the end I had to stop the meeting!
It is important that Managers in major employers are aware of the implications of diabetes - not a lot to ask. That's Blackpool Council for you though. See my blog for more information...
By the way, I did get support from Unison, but they were toothless.
 
That is a shame, my employer is also a local authority and they have been great so far

I'm a shop steward for Unite, unfortunately unions are nothing like the unions of old, they only have as much power as the workers lend to them, now days most people are fearful of losing their jobs and compliant as a result.
