Animas pump noise

Hello all,

I'll try and explain this/ask this question as best I can to make sure people don't think I'm going crazy....

I'm 2 weeks into my new pump. (I love it!) When you do a bolus dose I note that it makes a 'whoosh' type sound when it delivers the insulin.

But when it's quiet (I'm sitting here reading a book at the moment) I notice that I can sometimes hear a short whoosh type sound.

I'm not giving any bolus dose at the time I hear the sound. The only thing I've noticed is that when I hear the sound, my IOB level on the screen goes down.

That's the only thing I can notice has changed on my pump when I hear the sound.

I didn't know if that is some sort of pump notification or if you can turn that sound off?

I'm defiantly not hearing things so I just wondered if anyone else has heard the same type of noise?

Any advice would be appreciated. Can contact my pump nurse of Animas directly if no one knows.

I think what you are hearing is your background basal being delivered. If it's quiet I hear that too. The IOB going down probably just co-insides with the pump updating that and is not directly related. You can't turn the sound off as it's the sound of the motor moving but it might be louder because your pump is brand new. Give it a few weeks and I bet you hardly notice
 
I thought (and please excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong... I'm still learning! ) that your basal rate was delivered every hour?

This noise is every couple of minutes?
 
basal delivery will vary depending on how much insulin needs to be delivered within the hour. The minimal amount per hr the Vibe can deliver is 0.025U. So if that's all you needed for one hour, (highly unlikely) there would only be one dose. It can go up to as often as a small dose every three minutes for a large per hour dose. My basal rates vary from 0.5 up to 0.85 per hour, and basal doses usually occur every 5 to 10 min. Don't worry about asking anything - it's how we all learn
 
It's def the sound of the basal being delivered. It's slowly drip fed to you gradually over time, rather than just on an hourly basis. I find it a strangely comforting sound, tbh. Over time you will notice it less.
 
Animas pump rep told me only last week that animas delivers basal 30 times per hour if dose is high enough to warrant it
 
I counted via a stopwatch (geek!) and mine sound goes off every 3 minutes. Now I know what the sound is I feel much more comforted.

The animas pump delivers the basal every 3 mins
