Hi all. I'm 53 and have recently been diagnosed with T2 diabetes (currently diet controlled). I did suspect it before I was officially diagnosed as there is a family history of it so I had recognised the signs. My surgery have been very good - I've had my first retinopathy scan, still waiting for my foot check. I have seen the doctor and the nurse a few times now. I'm finding it difficult to accept the disease though as I don't actually feel ill!!! :eh:

I have made some changes to my lifestyle but I am struggling with my cholesterol levels. My nurse wants to put me on medication but so far I have refused. I know that once I start down the tablet route for anything then there's no going back. I've put her off till September - so watch this space!

It's good to have a forum such as this as I have read a few things and it has helped me understand a little more about the disease, by reading how others are dealing with it. Thank you!

Hi Gypsy and welcome to the forum It is very difficult at first but as you see your levels coming down you will start to feel better about it - I'm speaking from my own experience here. I'm very glad this forum is helping you, as it has also helped me. As you are fairly newly diagnosed, I think you might find this information useful. Ask as many question as you like - there are lots of people here who can help you.

Hi Gypsyg and welcome. Key thing with this forum is to ask questions- nothing is silly. Good plan to go down the diet route, but do include the exercise you need to go with it. Daisy's post is great so read it and watch the starchy carbs. Good luck!
