AntiBiotics - any point avoiding with Diabetes 2

I am on metformin and simvastatins and am 56 yo. I had a flu jab a couple of months ago but just before Christmas went down with the worst flu I have ever had. Day/Night sweats, aching joints/muscles. 3 days in bed but managed (just) to get up for Christmas lunch. For a few days afterwards I had real balance problems and this persisted until the weekend until on Monday I went down with a dreadful cold, face pain that now feels as if it may become sinusitis, yellow phlegm etc now 4 days into it.
My question is: is there any point in allowing my body to fight this off or should I get myself along to the doc for antibiotics? I have heard the expression "compromised immune system" and am wondering if my faith in mother nature is misplaced once you have D2. I am a right miserable sod at home.

If you have an infection then it is best to get the antibiotics. Any infection will put up your bg levels so fighting it off as quickly as possible is a good idea.

Antibiotics are of no use with flu as it is a viral infection. You may have picked up a secondary bacterial infection and this could be treated with antibiotics. This can happen to anyone, diabetic or not.
IMHO I would phone the surgery and explain what is going on and ask to speak to a Dr.

Hope this helps,
Catherine.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your speedy responses. Just got an appointment first thing tomorrow morning....
