Hi, I am just receovering from bad bout of Thrush only to find I now have an infection and have been prescribed Penicillan. I am aware that this can cause Thrush again should I be taking probiotics? If so what is the best sort please? Is Kafir any help?

Many thanks

Re: AAntibiotics for infection advice on probiotics please

Hi, I dont really know about probiotics apart from kefir, I brew my own and have done so for around 9 years I think, I used to suffer from what seemed to be permanent thrush and drinking kefir certainly helped me a great deal along with good bg control I have not suffered thrush for a very long time until just the last 2 months I was admitted for an emergency operation earlier this year (a twisted ovary, out of the blue so not diabetes related), the op was just fine but I managed to catch MRSI whilst in hospital along with 3 other patients and at one point ended up on 4 different types of antibiotics, intravenously, capsules and injections, this played havoc with my, thrush like never ever before, and side effects galore. My husband brought me kefir every day, and it worked for me, I didnt need any more pessaries, creams, capsules or anything, thank goodness because I already had enough side effects from the other meds I needed to take. I drank twice the, for me, normal amount of kefir, which was 3/4 litre, am back to just half of that now and still clear of thrush though.
As for creams I found tea tree and calendula ointments were soothing.

I hope you get better very soon.

All the best

Re: AAntibiotics for infection advice on probiotics please

Thank you so much for your help. How can I make my own Kefir please? How does it help with blood glucose? I would also be interested in how long it took you to get your blood sugar levels down through diet alone please if you are willing to share that information.
Many thanks

I think you can buy kefir in some really good health food shops, ready brewed, to make your own you need kefir grains and it would be a kind of commitment really, because the grains grow and you would be making kefir basically every day or two. (if you wanted to give it a go I can easily send you some grains to start your own culture (dont post your address here though, send it in a PM).
If over time you end up with too many grains you can either give them away or add them to your kefir smoothie.

I am not sure if kefir alone would really help with diabetes, well at least I have not noticed personally, but check out these links

Regarding my bg levels, have you read my post in Success Stories? You will see there that it took me a while of lots of trial and errors and mistakes to get to where I am now and have been for around 9 years.

Let me know if you want some kefir grains, I have some lively healthy chappies in my jar that I am happy to send out.

Re.S. - AAntibiotics for infection advice on probiotics pl

Here I found this for you, http://www.mendosa.com/diabetes_update_71.htm, and http://diabetesdietdialogue.wordpress.c ... robiotics/ its well worth reading the Mendoza newsletters, but dont rush, you cant do things all at once, so keep it all nice and relaxed otherwise you will push up your bg and bp and you most definitely dont what that to happen.

Your kefir grains are in the post, well packaged and you should have them within 1 - 2 days

All the best
