Antibiotics

I am on a 5 day course of antibiotics due to a broken toe. It’s more as a precaution to avoid infection as the toe is very swollen and red. I’m in no pain thanks to diabetic neuropathy !!!!
I have found I’ve had a low grade fever since starting them and feel pretty lousy in general. Is this common for antibiotics ? Anyone else experience this ?

Hi @Sharrryn, Every time I am prescribed an antibiotic my doctor has his spiel ready: "these may cause some nausea or tummy upset.". But if you get a rash please coms and see me.
When I had a bad bruise I remember him saying," As your body tidies up all the blood and starts repairing the damage you might have a slight fever. Please let me know though if it gets above 38.5 C or if you start get shivering".
I hope what he told me might make some sense to you.

Agree with you there but a simple broken toe in the diabetic foot especially with neuropathy can lead to horror amputations so if there’s a even a slight chance of infection I’d rather take the antibiotics.

I got put on a course of antibiotics after I slashed my wrist with an angle grinder & the wound got infected, late last year.
I had no ill effects from them & I healed up nicely... .

Not at the time. It felt more like a graze.. But was a gash. Just kicky it didn't go deeper.. I was seen by a nurse within five mins at my local sugery. But about 28 hours later, the wound got angry.
In went to A&E the following morning & was requested to remove my wedding ring for treatment.. That's when I realised my hand had swollen.
I'd cleaned & the wound and redressed it about 4 hours prior but by the time the HCP removed the covering it looked nasty infected mess..

All good now.!

Stable BGs always help. But you can never tell..

I recently used my angle grinder to cut through some steel reinforcing rods, which it did like the proverbial hot knife through butter. Sounds like you got away lightly!

Yep, it had kicked up, but I'd reacted & flicked the off switch. The cuff on the glove took most of the wheel's inertia as it kept spinning.. Error on my part. Won't do that again.
