Hi. I’m wanting to stop taking my antidepressant. I’ve been on Mirtazapine 15mg for six months for anxiety and depression. I feel it’s no longer helping and leaves me extremely tired all the time. I will consult with my doctor of course and taper off slowly but would appreciate any experiences of people stopping antidepressants - Symptoms and blood sugar issues and how long it took etc.
Thanks.

Hi @Sharryn, I suggest you consult your doctor about this first so that you can work together on this.
I am on anti-depressants and they are working well for but I was advised by my doctor to reduce
but not stop my medication. He thinks that I need to find the lowest dose that works and I agree.
Even though I reduced by the suggested amount my BSLs went a bit haywire and I ended up having to
increase them again !! The tablets are 50 mg and 100 mg and I went from
150 mg total per day to 100 mg per day.
Not saying that this will happen to you but the drug information did suggest gradual reduction for
my medication (not Mirtazepine).
Of course the tablets do not come in small doses by which to make reducing doses easy!!
I do hope your anxiety/depression improve by whatever means is safe !!
Best Wishes
P.S. My doctor checked my thyroid and B12 levels before prescribing anti-depressants in case an
abnormal level of one of those was mimicking depression symptoms in me..

Thank you for your reply. Yes I will consult with my doctor and get his advice for reducing the dose or stopping the drug. I’m extra keen to stop taking it as it also restricts the medications I can take for my endometriosis and gastroparesis as mirtazapine can interfere with these.
