Any Experiences with Mounjaro?

Anybody here been on Mounjaro and have any experiences? I like that it is supposedly so good at lowering A1C and has the side effect of weight loss. Unfortunately, it's super expensive where I live like almost 1000 dollars a month.

I'm hoping I can get insurance to cover it but I am still going to research it and see what people say.

How long did it work?
A1C change?
Weight lost?
Any side effects?
 
Mounjaro has only just been approved for use in UK, but will likely not be available for prescription for a few months yet.

I’m guessing you aren’t in Uk, but if you are, there are several alternatives available in the same drugs class (GLP-1).
 
Yeah we have ozempic here but it's super hard to get and even more expensive. Apparently all the rich people buy it in cash to lose like 20 lbs.

I have been on Mounjaro and I love. My A1C has gone from 10.1 to 7.5 and is now 6.6. My appetite has been curved and I am more energetic. No side effects and 18lbs lost in 4 months.
 
I’m on the 2.5mg starting dose and heading into week 3.

I’d worked hard to get my BMI down to 28 from 32 but had become stuck. My A1c had dropped from 95 18months ago to 66 (8.2%) on Metformin and Dapagliflozin. My GP wouldn’t prescribe so I’ve paid for this (circa £200/month in the UK)

Ive been using a CGM to monitor impact and so far its extraordinary - I’m now 82% time in range (last 7days) & 70% since commencing 2 weeks ago.

Minimal gastro side effects (a little bloating, discomfort occasionally & indegestion occasionally).

I’ll step up to 5mg but may stick at that and see how things progress.

I live in the UK and I am grossly obese and have so many other ailments and would love to try this . I have tried everything to loose weight and nothing budges . I know people who have bought it over the counter £250 and have lost weight and feel amazing
 
Started this a few months ago (on prescription). Currently on 10mg pen. Have lost 15kg and counting!

My levels have also been extraordinary! Have just got latest hba1c and latest levels are 47mmol/mol
 
I have been on mounjaro since February and have had great results with my diabetes but I did find as I went up on the dosage I was unable to eat feeling very nauseous and uncomfortable I have now gone back down to a dose in which im able to eat comfortably and I’ve lost 4 stones with this drug
 
T2D here. I have been on MJ (self pay) for five months. I’m currently on a 10 mg dose. It started working for me literally within hours of my first injection. So far I have lost 16kg over five months. For the first couple months I had a few gastro side effects, but entirely manageable. Now the only side effect I get is injection site reactions each time. My hba1c has dramatically dropped to 39. It has never been this low since my diagnosis. My GP has dropped my metformin by half. In three months if it is still that low we will stop the metformin entirely. This medication is a game changer. I still enjoy my food, but all that food noise is gone. I’m using the time to retrain myself on listening to my body’s signals to stop eating and make better food choices. The money spent has been the best investment in my health. I wish you the best on your journey.
 
I’m on 2.5mg. Only used for 1 month, no real significant change to weight, but it’s early days. Only thing I worry about is, how long before Mounjaro becomes hard to get and then us diabetics will lose out again. I couldn’t handle any of the tablet medication, made me really sick. And I have been diagnosed 4yrs have tried about 4/5 different meds. Then left for months without medication. Then I was started on an injection which then became a “global shortage” left for over a year with no medication and with very little support only to now be told that I have liver problems.
 
I have been on prescription (prescribed by Diabetic Consultant at the hospital) Mounjaro since 14th August (9 weeks today) and have lost almost a stone (13 lbs). Bloods so much lower too - last Hba1C was 81! I am due another blood check in a month but my monitor says my 14 day average is 6.8 mmol/L. I went from a 2.5mg pen to a 5mg pen (I am on the second one of 5mg) and the Dr says I can go up again for the next pen. Also my Insulin intake has reduced from 70 units to 40 units daily.

Only side effects are slight gastro issues - bloating, tummy ache sometimes, little nausea, occasionally have to make a rapid visit to the w/c but manageable and worth it for the results.

It definitely suppresses my appetite and I do not actually feel hungry very often; I have also stopped 'obsessing' about food all the time. I often don't finish all of my meal (so my portion sizes have reduced) and I quite often turn down the dessert option (unheard of!!! ).

Total game-changer in my opinion! Great to hear other people's success stories too.
 
I hear you Cat lady, that is what I am worried about. I am type 2 diabetic and I tried ozempic for a while instead of victoza to give me a break from daily injections. I didn't lose any weight but my weight didn't go up or down the whole time during COVID, and still hasn't gone up. I went back to victoza and was only back on it for a couple of months when they couldn't get it. The last time I was able to get it was 19/09/23. I understand that it is not expected to be in stock again until early next year. I had to manage without a suitable pen until I was prescribed mounjaro 2.5 mg in March. I am now on 7.5 mg weekly and at last my blood sugars have improved from 14 before breakfast to 8.5. I have also lost a grand total of 2lbs since March. I am quite active so I don't know if that has anything to do with the lack of weight loss, or maybe I am at my proper weight which I am happy with. Victoza, Ozempic and Mounjaro were never prescribed for weight loss for my use, only to help control my blood sugars. It annoys me no end when people abuse a medication for a quick fix and are not even diabetic!. Christmas is not far away, I wonder how many people with the new news from the government will now attempt to buy Mounjaro privately to drop a dress/trouser size or 2 before the Christmas parties and in anticipation to lose more weight after New Year. I sit and wait for the shortages to begin AGAIN. I fear we will be last in the queue once again. It wouldn't surprise me either if the government will be benefiting financially from the sales of this new medication, afterall they didn't have to disclose the name publicly...and we all know what happens when you advertise and name an alleged new wonder drug don't we!!!
 
I'm on Mounjaro, had 8 weeks at the lower dose (2.5mg) then increased to 5mg. Was told by diabetes nurse yesterday that the NHS will only allow 5mg, and that they won't pay for higher dosage. I'm in UK. It's really helping bring down my sugars.
 
I'm on 5mg at the moment the only side effects I've had is I started being violently sick and severe sulphur burps but I combated this by making sure I eat before taking it, which I was not advised to do. I haven't lost any weight yet but I also haven't put any on. And my blood sugars have also come down, although they rise slightly the day before my injection. I've been on it for just over 2 months.
 
I have been on Mounjaro since July increasing the dosage each month to now 10ml. This is because by the 4th week of each month the suppression of diet does ease off. I have suffered no detrimental side effects except the intended loss of appetite and feeling full after smaller meals. I have changed by diet, I no longer snack (not hungry) eat more fruit and have lost over a stone in weight and my sugar levels, cholesterol, blood pressure and kidney functions are now within acceptable zones. I have this monitored by the practice nurse and receive the jabs on the NSH so don’t have to pay.
This may not suit everyone, but it has changed me and my outlook on food, physical activity and enjoy wearing smaller sized clothes.

I don't know about specific medications but I am on Fluoxitine which as anti-depressent and I am losing weight.
 
Thanks for all the responses everyone. I have really been struggling with my weight and eating "right" my entire life.

I have a few health issues aside from diabetes that have gotten worse so I need something to tip me in the right direction.

Fingers crossed my insurance will cover it and I do well as some of you with it!
