I am a type 2 but have been injecting insulin for the last 2and a half years. (Humuin M3)
To get straight to the point last Saturday the chemist received an insulin prescription from me and then promptly lost it but someone registered it on their system as issued. They were of little help an advised me to call the NHS on 222!
They were competely useless in fact and promptly fell over themselves to tend to the junkie who had come for his methodone! ( I kid thee not)
Anyway I rang 111 and they said they couldn't help and i should see my doctor. My doctors surgery say I should speak to the chemists and round we go. In the mean time my blood sugars are looking like a telephone number. How long can I go before I end up with ketosis? or worse. It might be expedient if I did so someone will listen! Can I buy insulin from a reputable source?

If you've spoken with the chemist today and they won't dispense the insulin then you need to go back and tell your gp surgery, if your bg levels are high tonight then go to your local A & E and explain to them what's happened and that you've no insulin and your bg levels are very high, they may give you enough to see you through until you get this sorted with your gp and pharmacy.

If you regularly get your insulin from this pharmacy, so they have records of you being prescribed that insulin before, then in the past you could either 1. get an emergency prescription from the pharmacist or 2. buy the insulin (about £20 for 5 pen cartridges). However they have tightened up a lot on this in recent years. It's still worth a try.

Thanks for the help people. Got sorted eventually but it's ridiculous the hoops you have to jump through when this happens. If it was a narcotic or something with a high value I could understand but why would anyone try and obtain extra insulin except because of a legitimate reason? Makes no sense to me!

Body builders. There is a culture of abusing insulin amongst non professional body builders. They are the reason for the increased restrictions we all face on supply of insulin.

So what was the problem then bolders, how did you get sorted in the end?
