Anybody else using the Abbott FreeStyle InsuLinx?

Hi all,

I have just been sent a new meter - Abbot FreeStyle InsuLinx. It includes an insulin dose calculator which needs to be activated by a DSN. My DSN knows nothing about this, nor does my GP. Anybody else experienced similar? Is there a way to unlock without going through a DSN?

The code is CAA1C it says that a healthcare professional has to do it but I just clicked yes and it let me set it up hope that helps.
 
Thank you, I have been on DAFNE for nearly 4 years this will be great, only pity screen display is so poor,
 
I'm using it as my main meter, it's pretty badass with its back lit display and the little LED that guides where the test strip goes in...

I've set up the Insulin calc but don't bother using it. :thumbup:
 
That's sensible - it's quite likely that you will accidentally use "Backup and Restore functions of the FreeStyle Auto-Assist Software [...] for the first time" when you are away...
 
This is off topic, does anyone know how to restart the setting, I need to wipe it clear of all data and restart.
Blank logbook and every.

I'm using this meter too, having my insulin doses worked out for me would have been excellent when I first started carb counting. Now I just have to add up my carbs and I know my dose right away... But it is great to have them logged for you, means I can pretty much do away with the paper dairy!
 
Just been given this last friday11th.jan. set it up in advanced mode and it told me this morning to have just 1 unit of insulin. Any more may mean a low blood sugar message too. Switched to easy mode and carry on now much as before making my own calculations although I do take into account what the machine says

I've received an email about getting one of these machines. I wondered if it is only for those that inject insulin after eating? I inject before my meals at breakfast and dinner and i carb count too, so wondered if this will be beneficial for me or not.
Can anyone who injects before eating advise if they use one of these? and if so have you found it to be a wonderful tool?

Hello there I am using the insulin blood test machine it is a very useful piece of equipment you would find it very beneficial as you can tell it what carbs you plan to eat and and it can assist with what insulin is needed to cope with what you eat I had been just using it to test my bags but was recently showed how to use it to its full potential it is a clever piece of equipment . I would say get one go to your diabetes nurse they will show you how to use it correctly hope this helps cheers

The insulin calculator only gives suggested doses for rapid acting insulin. Are you on a mixed one before breakfast and dinner? IF so I don't think the calculator would be much use to you.
 

I'm currently using hypurin before my meals, which is a short acting insulin and Glargine which is a long acting insulin.

I would think that would work out OK. Do you have to inject long before meals? The insulinx records the time of the test and assumes the insulin is taken at the same time (I think you have about 10 minutes from the test to input the number of carbs and get a dose calculated). It has some information about the insulin profile which is uses when calcualting doses close together. Say you have a snack after a couple of hours it will take into acount the jab from your previous meal based on the time of the injection and presumably some data on insulin profile.
 
Hi .. I use The Abbott Free Style Insulinex and have been adviced to calibrate My machine But how or where do I get the little testing bottles from as They did Not come with the box .. Can Someone please help Me .. Thank You ?? .. X ..
 
I got one as well, set it up myself, but I found it useless and not worth the effort involved. I thought it my be useful as I'm thinking of getting a pump but if a pump takes that much effort, that is a nonstarter as well.
 
I have got one my dsn set mine up too many technical question to put in ratios and unless you have done dafne u will get confused very easy and you don't want to be taking the wrong amount of insulin.
 
I have this meter and have found it really good. Although I didn't realise that there was a problem with the backup facility. Thanks for the help and the link to hopefully fix the problem.
