I was chatting to some chaps in the pub and discovered that 4 of us had T2 Diabetes, all late onset.
Not so unusual.
However, it transpired that each of us had been diagnosed with appendicitis and had our appendix removed between the ages of 30 and 40 (we're now in our 50s).
I'd be interested to know how many other late-onset diabetics have had their appendix removed.
myself diagnosed T2 at 46 now 47 still got my appendix
Dad - diagnosed T2 at 51(ish)now 72 still got his appendix
Best friend diagnosed gestational & T2 early 30's - still got appendix
Hubby non diabetic 46 appendix removed at 7 years old
Sister in law non diabetic 43 appendix removed at 17
I think we as diabetics tend to look for trends in everything - and why not its no bad thing and the more we know the more we can do about it - but it is nice to see that at least one thing may not be linked to diabetes
