I am an on / off low carber, and have been for many years. I have found recently, that my off times where I haven't been able to get back on the wagon could be linked to drinking fizzy drinks - mostly diet coke or pepsi max, but sometimes sugar free orangeade, cherryade etc.
When I stick to water, I can rid my cravings for cake, biscuits and other sweet stuff - something I cannot avoid when on artificially sweetened drinks. I appreciate everyone is different, but this is true for my personal situation.
For december, my glucose readings were between 18 and 35 before meals and on waking. Since I have cut out the pop since Jan 1st, I have lost my cravings for sweet stuff, and my levels have been between 8 and 10 this afternoon. Still a way to go - but for those struggling, it might be worth knocking pop on the head!
