aspartame

Luckily I don't have a very sweet tooth, or rather I have trained myself away from having one. I vary rarely eat cakes, biscuits , chocolate etc; I have sugar in Tea and Coffee don't drink sodas. I switched to Golden Granulated Sugar about 20years ago being a slightly healthier choice. I say its each to his own.

Hi Shelley

I can sympathise with your problem regarding cold drinks, I too found that Aspartame was making me feel unwell when I was drinking a lot of squash to quench my night thirsts. Yes, water is very plain and boring so I now drink cold fruit teas. I brew a jug of about 4 to 6 tea bags, maybe add a touch of sugar for taste and keep in the fridge, you can have it as strong or weak as you like. This way I know what is in my drink and it also tastes better! There are a lot of choices of flavours too, I found the blackcurrant ones are really nice. Hope this helps.

I drink hot chocolate to get my non water fix. I buy 100% cocoa powder, which is about 8-12 grams of carbs per 100g. My drink usually contains about 3 grams of cocoa powder, so the effect on blood sugars is negligible. I also add a tablespoon of cream, which adds about 0.5g of carbs to the equation. I sweeten the drink with a tiny amount of stevia. (Stevia is a plant that naturally tastes very sweet, but has no effect on blood sugars. I use tiny amounts because it's very strong, and too much can leave a bitter after taste).
