Hi Guys and all Newbies. I was diagnosed over 3 weeks ago Hba1c of 86 and 12.3. THis is my 3rd week of testing by meter. With those sorts of numbers I expected to go on high meds and a lifetime of eating less tasteless food. A bit shaken and fearful. All I have done is changed my diet and started walking 40 minutes day and take i 500mg of metformin with my dinner . It has taken a me a few weeks to figure out impact of carbs on my BS numbers. NOt sure I quite understand all of them. However, enough to get good control of my BS 2 hours after meals. I've even had the odd sweet in past week. I've gone on a LCHF diet and cant believe I could do that and still enjoy fav foods like roast chicken, grilled chicken, home made kebabs. I dont miss fizzy drinks, cakes and breads. I played football last night with my sons mates (who wondered where I had got all the energy) as I couldn't stop running and I am 58. My asthma which was increasing over the last year has completely gone and on a cold night like last night I would not have been able to manage in the past. MY diagnosis has been a blessing in disguise and I hope I can keep this up and hope it helps you as you start your journeys. Where my numbers have gone up in the table I know exactly what I have eaten. Also sometimes after my morning walk the numbers go up as well but they do subside by lunch. YOU CAN DO IT GUYS YOU REALLY CAN !! Numbers in bold below are my after 2 hours and each line is one day of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Before and after 2 hours.

Breakfast Lunch +2hrs Dinner +2hrs
5.8 +2 hrs 7.6 5.5 7.7 N/A
6.0 +2hrs 6.9 5.4 8.3 7.7 7.3
5.9 +2hrs 5.8 7.4 6.2 5.9 5.9
5.7 +2hrs 5.8 5.1 5.9 4.8 6.4
6.4 +2hrs 6.7 4.9 5.3 5.5 5.3
5.8 +2hrs 7.5 5.9 8.0 5.9 6.2
5.8 +2hrs 6.9 6.3 6.4 5.2 8.5

well done you...also watch your HDL number on your next blood test, I think you'll be pleased and your trig is about 2 now and that should go down

Thanks Jack. I look forward to that if that will be an additional benefit. It has cost me nearly £90 for the test strips but a worthwhile investment to help get the required focus.....Oh and my weight now is 196 ilbs---its MAGIC!

Jack I have an accu-check aviva meter. Strips are costly. Yes 1.5 would be great though I have no idea how great. How does that change or prevent symptoms?

Well done Beatdise. You are well on track.
Thanks Bluetit. I feel I'm in the groove now. It will be interesting to see how LCHF works over the longer term. Some say fats can make you quite sluggish and start gaining weight again.

It's carbs that make you sluggish, and if you get the balance right between carbs, fats and protein, you will lose, gain, or maintain your weight depending on the balance you chose.
