Back again and eternal vigilance

I joined years ago 2016 and got my bloods down to normal with diet with help from this site . Everything went well until summer this year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It had grown in 6 months from nothing (I had a clear mammogram 6 month earlier ) .As part of the diagnostic process I had my blood taken and was shocked to find HbAc1 was 110 . I thought it was an error and checked with a meter. Sadly it was right . The Gp phoned me and asked me if I was losing weight ( no ) and asked after other symptoms which I have absolutely none !

I have gone back to lowish 50 carb diet and things are going in the right direction , HbAc1 taken one month after the first shocker had dropped20% which meant that surgeon way happy to go ahead with operation . I do wonder if the high blood sugar contributed to the quick growth of the cancer as I understand cancer likes sugar. Also looking back on my pre operation diet all I can think was the only great change in my diet was maybe I was drinking quite a lot of a particular diet drink . I also was not too careful in monitoring my blood sugar. I have now cut the diet drink out as well as being more careful about most carbs . I still find morning bloods are a bit high and am trying cider vinegar.

I have realised that managing diabetes with diet needs eternal vigilance. So I am back to finger pricking.

Hello @dipsydo

Best of luck with your operation and the following treatment.

It's great you were able to bring down your HbA1C so quickly- hopefully with that additional vigilance it will continue to decline.

Best of luck and keep us updated.

Virtual hugs.
