Hi

I posted a few days ago with regards to the same problem so appologies if Im repeating my. Im getting really annoyed with some of my readings over the last few days. 3 weeks ago I started my low carb diet and for the first 2 weeks my sugars were perfect. But this week even tho Ive been eating the same kinds of foods my readings are gradually getting worse which I dont understand? Im running more this week than I was when I started the diet and Im giving myself the same amounts of insulin. For example my reading at 7.30am was 4.6 had scrambled eggs,1 apple and a glass of orange juice and had 3 units of novarapid. Tested at 12.30pm and it was 9.4 (not happy) then had some turkey with tinned tomatos and 1 orange and had 5 units of novarapid. Tested again at 3 and my sugars were 8.9. Why are they high? Do I need more insulin now than I did 2 weeks ago?
Really annoyed because I dont understand whats happening and I feel like Im back to square one!

Hi Rich
My reading didn't really go down too far until after 2 weeks into the diet. Also I have found that a lot of fruits send my sugars soaring as do tinned toms :-( Having said that I am type 2 controlled by diet only, so I have no idea about insulin etc...

Hopefully someone might be along soon to help more, but keep going in the meantime, and remember, as with everything else, some things work well for some & not so well for others...

Hope BGs go down soon & keep up the running - I just keep meaning to!

Hi Rich,

I'm not a type 1 so I can't advise on your insulin doses, but I can say that some of what you are eating has a very high sugar content. An apple is not too bad (average around 20g carbs) but a glass of orange juice is what most of us would use only in an emergency to treat a hypo - very high sugar and very quick acting. And as CurvyP said, tinned toms often contain loads of aded sugar.

Could you be coming down with a cold or something ?
If you are eating/drinking same foods now as last 2 weeks and you were doing well with that diet.
