Had my annual test couple of weeks ago and results say have background retinopathy now but no treatment reqd as yet. Been diagnosed since aug 2008. Not always had good control but would say i have for last 2 years. Is there any way this damage can be reversed or is it a slippery slope to vision loss?

There are a lot of diabetics who get the same results from time to time but the letter usually says that no treatment is needed and you will be seen in 12 months time.

The format of the letter leaves a lot to be desired and causes people to worry but if you think about it, if there was anything that needed immediate attention then you would be called back.

Try not to worry and continue managing your diabetes.

Hi chrisjohnson, generally most diabetics who gain good blood sugars ie 4.4mmol to 6.6 mmol retinopathy of all types subsides and will go back to normal, i know this is the case ,i was suffering neuropathy in my feet badly when my bs's were at 26.8 ( sept 14) now all gone loast weight on lchf regime and bs now averaging 3.8 fasting 5.8 two hours post dinner , if you can control bs rise to only 2 mmols you will see a reversal
