Bad teeth preventing me from eating properly

Hello all,
Just after a wee bit of advice please. My teeth are a bit of a mess at the moment (told this could be due to diabetes, type 1) and I have an abcess on the root of one of my teeth - by jingo does it hurt! I have antibiotics and painkillers but I can't eat properly and it's screwing up my blood sugars a bit. I am testing regularly and trying to eat but feeling sick and in so much pain it's unreal. Any advice!

I share you're pain.
Meanwhile rub oil of clove on the affected area for relief.

+1 for clove oil!!

If you're not familiar with it it tastes horrific but I found it's the only thing that took the pain away.

I would also recommend holding a hot water bottle near your face on the side where the abcess is. The heat will hopefully make the abcess slowly develop a head and then will burst with any luck. Failing that when you go back to the dentist discuss having the tooth pulled out as root canals usually involve extensive filling and over time the filling will fall out and then the tooth has had it anyway.
 
I totally sympathise been there felt the pain ,If the place where the abcess is can be reached you could try making a compress of epsom salts and hot water and putting it on the gum where the abcess is .It worked for me when I had a very bad sinus abcess I was very sceptical but would try anything to get rid of the pain and it worked after about 3 goes I heard the abcess burst and the relief was :clap:

I can sympathise completely. I've suffered about 6 weeks with my teeth. I had one taken out - with sedation as I'm epileptic too - got something called dry socket - dentist said being diabetic may of caused this as we dont heal -unbelievably painful - as it was weekend I was advised to take paracetamol every 4 hours. Which I did for 3 days then ended up in hospital with an overdose. So the next tooth I had taken out I didn't eat for 2 days. Just had Capri Suns. Then I ended up with ketones. There's no easy solution for it. Oil of cloves does help pain. But yes it is horrible. Best of luck. X
 
Have had 2 extractions over 2 years. Didn't have infection but dentist gave low dose antibiotics just in case one started and warned against dry socket. Was told no hot or very cold food or drinks for 24 hours could prevent it as it is caused if clotting takes too long. Try hairdrier on low heat setting for pain of abcess. Has worked for me in the past. Hope you feel better soon

I keep a "failed" root canal at bay when it gets bad with ibruprofen, but that's just making the pain without fixing the cause. Since I started drinking Matcha its improved considerably, it's like a natural antibiotic.

You will need root canal treatment but you will need to get the infection at bay first you may need strong antibiotics like metronidazole as if the infection is still there the anethestic wont work, there are things that can be done if that doesn't work but you would need to be referred to to max facials specialist def go back to dentist it won't go away

Oooohhh I feel your pain too, as I have been through nasty teeth, gumproblems. A nice warm to hot ,hot water bottle ( with a protecetive cover on) is soothing, also a good pain killer, but remember to read the instructions carefully and don't be tempted to take more!1

As for eating, wha tabout a milkshake, smooth soup, srambled egg with some seriously soaked cereal to make it softer, yogurts, or room temperture icecream, just to get you through the weekend.

Not sure putting hot compresses on abcesses are a good idea, my sister did this some time back and then noticed a small mark which got bigger overtime and the abcess was being drawn out through the side of her face, was quite nasty
 
Wow I think must be one in a million lol had loads of trouble with my teeth to the point of only now havin 3 partial teeth lol on my upper gum, was never told or wsrned bout dry whst ever it was and after having 10 I think it was teeth taken out one after the other in one sitting my gums heeled within ten days no troubles, once im registered at my new dentist ill be having the other 3 taken out and a new plate fitted. Pain wise I used to take 2 paracetamol then 2/3 hours later id take ibuprofen and it worked a treat or I used tooth tincture but not sure where does it although it sounds like clove oil lol

You need to get the Adult Formula as its twice as strong. :thumbup:
 
I use a mouthwash called 'peroxyl' which my hygienist recommended me. I find it a god sent. My gums have stopped bleeding and being painful to eat on. As well as where my gums had started to recede they are coming back to normal.

My diabetes has caused this problem 3 times so far. Each time I have used Anbesol Adult formula and pulled the offending tooth out myself, the relief is incredible. :thumbup:
 
Until that absess goes away you're going to be in pain for sure. I had to have one tooth removed the absess was so painful my tongue went numb.only real cure for the pain I think is to get that tooth out. As for eating in the meantime how about getting a cheap blender I bought one from Argos recently for £14 you can then mush your foodstuffs until you're back to normal so making it easier to get the foods down.There are lots of nice recipes on the web too.
