Bananas

Hi,

May sound like a strange one but recently I've been having problems when eating bananas.

I'm type 1 and on novorapid on an omnipod pump.

I inject for a banana and rise a lot then suddenly drop. I then started injecting for less than I should but still rise then drop.

Any ideas or previous experience of this?

Thanks

Hi @brogantyler . I do like bananas but unlike you don't overly struggle with them.
If I'm at work and need something to see me through to my next meal/ injection I find a banana is often a good choice for me. I guess being at work and being busy tends to stop the spike.
The other times I eat a banana is occasionally before going bed at night. Interestingly if I have a banana before bed I always eat it with peanut butter. This usually gives me a steady, level supply of carbs throughout the night without the spike or drop of sugar levels.
Not sure if any of this is relevant to you.

Hi @therower I have often been having them with breakfast with shreddies or as a banana sandwich. I've had to start injecting for 1/4 of the carbs and still seems to drop. I'm changing from novorapid to fiasp soon so hoping that will help with the post meal peaks. When you snack or have the banana do you inject for it?

Agree with therower. Bananas raise blood sugar quickly therefore need to be mitigated by fat or slower acting carbs. Banana and peanut butter butties are the way forward

@brogantyler . No I never inject for bananas. As I say I only have a banana if I need one at work to stop me going low/ see me over for an hour or so to my next meal. Or if I need a banana with peanut butter as a overnight carb intake, usually if my sugars are on the low side prior to bed.

@brogantyler . Yes if I was to have a banana as a " meal " supplement then I would inject for it.
I usually reckon on an average banana being around 20g carbs.
So if I was to have a banana with my oats in the morning then I'd inject for 50g's. 30g oats 20g banana.
