Basal insulin that works like Monotard

I'm been having problems with levemir and novorapid for so long now and I'm about to go on to Humalin S (to replace novorapid), which I've been told is almost identical to Actrapid and worked well for me for all my diabetic life. However, I'd also like to find an insulin to replace levimer that works similar to Monotard.
Anybody previously used actrapid and monotard and changed to similar insulins??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Christine

hi,

sorry i can't be of help as i have no experience with those insulins, but i'm bumping you back up so you may get a reply from someone who knows who hasn't seen this post.

Hi,

do you mean in terms of length of action, when you say similar to Monotard?
I don't have experience of changing from monotard so can't help there, but this site might be of use - tells you all the different lengths of all the different insulins and what kinds they are
http://www.mims.co.uk/Tables/882439/Ins ... parations/

hm, having said that it doesn't list monotard, presumably coz it's discontinued. But this site says it lasted 24 hours: http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/profs/datash ... ardinj.htm
If you are purely looking for a similar duration then Lantus might be worth a try. However no other insulins had zinc suspension in, and I know some people have had problems with Lantus, so these things may also affect your decisions.

hope that helped (a bit!)

Humulin I is isophane background insulin in the same group as Montoard so should react similarly

Thanks Jopar, you provided me with the right information. I am now using Humulin i for my basal background and humulin s for the bolus quick acting.....it's working so much better than novo rapid and levimir and lantus which I've previously tried!
