I was having similar problems, getting up with a fine sugar and not eating breakfast and then i would rise for what would seem to be no reason, my dr told me this was due to the cortisol getting going in my body and sending the sugar up and to have maybe 1 or 2 units in a morning even if i wansnt eating breakfast (depending what my sugar was when i woke up obviously) i have found i can wake up at 4 and not have to take anything and still rise to about 8 (which im happy with) but it all depends on what levels you are happy with, good luck
