Bayer USB Contour meter

Ok, so we shelled out for a Bayer USB meter, since both the optium exceeds and freestyle lites died around the same time.

Over the last two weeks, my daughter has been getting alarming readings, namely 0.6, 2.1 etc. When she retests immediately, she gets a completely different reading like 8.4.

Does anyone else have one of these USB meters or can you suggest what could be causing this?

She has felt fine, but her meter says she is hypo. I've caught them by observing her, so the meter is accurate some of the time, but to get 0.6 is pretty scary/crazy.

I've used several Contours over the last few years and my experience has been that: to get the most realistic results (i.e. they match with lab blood tests and how I feel) I need to offer the test strip a decent sized drop of blood. They advertise working from a very small sample of blood and will display an error if they don't get enough but I still find that by getting a decent sized drop on my finger and then allowing the test strip to "sip" just the right amount it needs (rather than "hoovering" up all of a smaller drop), I invariably get a realistic reading.

I recently got a glucomen lx plus after looking into dka alot ( still so much to learn on this subject!) good meter so far

I use a contour and have never had a problem. Are you using the strips with the correct range? Their are 3 ranges available, "LOW", "NORMAL" and "HIGH" You have a testing fluid to test one of the strips as a sample to make sure it comes in range of the specified strip type. If not, strips could be dud and need to be replaced.
