Does any Type 1 diabetic ladies (or gents!?!) know of a Beautician in the London area where I can get my legs waxed, I know some beauticians can be funny with waxing diabetics.
Some beauticians won't wax diabetics and will ask for a letter from your doctor to say its ok, I asked diabetes UK and they said it is through ignorance that beauticians do this, if you suffer from neuropathy you shouldn't get it done.
I visit the beauticians once a week ........ not all for waxing lol and I have never had a problem, my beautician is also diabetic and more often than not we swap stories, infact the only reason she knows i am diabetic is because we yap about it .......... otherwise I prob wouldn't have said, don't think it affects any of the treatments that I have!!!!!!!!
I certainly wouldn't have imagined they would refuse you or ask for a doctors letter, seems a bit drastic !!!! (maybe i'm wrong lol)
I imagine it's because of the risk of doing damage to someone who has neuropathy and they are just protecting themselves. it's like at work we can't cut toenails of people with diabetes as there is a risk of doing damage, I've seen nasty infected toes because of people knicking themselves whilst cutting their toenails.
