Been doctors again today

Well after a good visit to DN on monday and levels at a low i have now come back from the doctors armed with steriods great first thing doctor said was now this will make your sugar levels go high. at this time only on them for a week unless they help with the pain problem and blood results come back with what she thinks they might then could be on them up to 2 years or more great now how do i get to keep my levels low without more medication.

sorry rant over just need to get this out noone here understands how i am feeling not sure what i want the results to say would be good to get to the bottom of these flare ups but at the same time do not want to be on medication that is going to ****** up my levels
 
Hi,

Steroids will make your blood sugars rise I'm afraid. Whether you have to use these on a temporary or permanent basis is not really the issue. Sometimes other conditions have to be juggled along with the diabetes. I take them for a six week period occasionally. You really need to monitor your blood sugars and if you have not been given a testing kit, you have a reason for one now.

If it means taking medication is it really a bad thing? To be able to control both conditions is a must so I would not take it too badly as many of us have other health problems that also need addressing. There are many medications for other health issues that affect blood sugars. Diabetes in isolation is so much easier.

i think yesterday was just a shock am already on medication for other problems and this is another one to add to the mix
have brought a monitor and tested this morning at 7.3 this happens from time to time first thing have just tested 2 hours after eating and after taking the tablets this morning and a not for a long time reading of 13.4 sitting here with a headache and feeling like i want to go to sleep instead of working oh well lets hope its only for a week if not then i will be asking for strips from the doctors so i can get back into control
