Right so I ended up having DKA two weeks ago, i had gatroentinitis and was throwing up for 2 days. I went in with a blood glucose of 5.8 and ketones of 4++++
my control has been ok to good for about 6 months, although i have been diabetic for nearly 10 years. I have managed to reduce my background insulin from 24 untis twice a day to 17 twice a day my carbohydrate ratios have reduced too from 2:10 to 1:10 my insulin sensitivity has gone up . Dunno how buy hey this means less insulin wooooohooooo!!!!

Like most other diabetics i know insulin keeps me alive but it really annoys and aggrevates me when non diabetics say did you get it from eating too many sweets? you cant have chocolate though can you? what are you not allowed to eat?

my favourite thing was a young bloke came ino mcdonalds where i work wearing an insulin pump he was american visiting family. I was speaking to him about it for a good half an hour ( we wernt busy) one of my managers asked if diabetes was caused by eating too many sweets and chocolate and he just went right up to her took her hand and said no its from talking to sweet things like you she went soooo red and had to walk away while we just laughed. I have had to explain diabetes and how it works to teenagers so many times They really need to explain it in schools as soo many teenagers and young children are being diagnosed.I have had to help parents of young children work out the carbs for their kids and explain the insulin pens and blood glucose meters, even help with their kids injections by showing them how to do it themselves young as 5 they all love me doing that.

One family even came in with a card and teddy for me helping their 8 year old son with his dafne and blood glucose testing and injections. he was soo scared to test his blood with the clicker in his meter, so i got my spare one with used the same lancets needles as his, it was one that has a slower speed so it hurt less, i mentioned the didgit meter where he can play games and get freebies and stuff online when he has good meter readings safe to say he came running in last week with his new meter saying it was awesome. He was also using 6mm needles ( too big for such a little boy) so hes now on 4mm ones less bruising and hurts less. His parents are so much more relaxed with him now because he comes up to me and works put his dose and carb portions before he orders it bless him

i need to be more like him he is sooo good has a pretty much spot on hba1c
