Last Wednesday my husband (Type 1) was rushed to hospital with a suspected stroke. After various tests and scans it was decided he has Bells Palsy. The left side of his face is totally paralyzed, and has dropped, he can't close his eye, drink or eat property. His speach is slurred. He is on a high dose of steroids that have shot his sugars up and we are putting eye drops in every hour. He feels very ill and is exhausted. Has anyone else had any experience of this? How long did it take to get better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My sister has bells palsy. Although not diabetic, she still can't move the side of her face properly.

Last time it flared up, it lasted a couple of weeks but this time round, it has been well over a year but it gets better everyday.

Hi, I had Bells Palsy 8 years ago & unfortunately due to the doctor not giving me correct medication mine took around 6 months to get better, I still have nerve damage & facial tics, I felt ill whilst on the steroids but was not diabetic at the time, I advise rest, support & def do facial exercises when he's feeling up to it, I also have a friend who has had it several times, maybe 5? Hers recovers very well within weeks & she has no signs of it ever being there.
