hi guys

been on low carb a couple of weeks now and I'm enjoying it, according to the scales i have lost 10lbs in 3 weeks (i'll take that) and my sugar levels doing good as well, carrying a bit of an injury at the moment so exercise isn't up to much just now but will be back on it when i'm better.

i'm not a big veg fan but know that its important to eat them.

what are the best vegetables to eat for low carb? i don't like courgette and I've not tried avocado, i know avocado is recommended but is there any others i can eat?

thank you

Craig

Anything that's grown above ground - with the exception of celeriac, turnip and swede - great subtitutes for potatoes - worth pointing out that peas should be taken with caution as they are technically legumes not vegetables- staples in my house - cauli, spinach, cabbage, green beans, leeks in moderation, broccoli, asparagus, salad leaves, radishes, courgettes, peppers, mushrooms

My best suggestion is to get a meter and test your blood before, and two hours after eating.
- that way you can check out any food and see if it suits you.

There are ppl around here who can eat root veg, but my meter tells me I can't.
Likewise sweet fruit.
Likewise some grains.

Our reactions to food are so personal, that all people can really do is tell you how it works for them, but that doesn't mean it will work the same way for you.

General guidelines would suggest avoid root veg and the ones @lovinglife suggested. But if you test, you may be able to incorporate more than you think.

If you want food lists, this is a great thread:

thanks guys, checking my bloods this morning after i got up it's sitting at 8.5 mmol, levels definitely improving i think so I'm heading in the right direction

Good on you for being so positive and sensible. GI (glycemic index) of food can also be incorporated into managing your BGLs - lot of useful and interesting info at www.gisymbol.com.au. Whilst there, worthwhile to read the two articles by Prof Jennie Brand-Miller and Dr Alan Barclay in the July 2016 newsletter. As Brunneria said we are all different. - the articles are about just that, written in a practical and clear manner.
Best of luck and remember - veggies rule!!

thank you i'll check out that site as well

I pretty much stick with lettuce ( in moderation as it will raise me) celery radish scallions asparagus and mushrooms. An avocado a day.
