beta cell or islet transplant

I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 14 (8 years) I have always had poor control over the condition, as much as I try I have never been able to keep consistant good levels and my hba1c is usually over 12.

I have been reading into beta cell and islet transplants, from what I have read I seem an ideal candidate, I have a low but healthy BMI, poor control and have had the condition for over 5 years.

I also suffer from psoriasis which can be treated by anti-rejection drugs. I'm no doctor so I dont know if the anti-rejection drugs needed after the transplant would work in the same way as the drugs given to psoriasis suffers or not, but im sure they wouldn't hurt.

My question is HOW can I volunteer for this treatment, I am aware of the risks but these do not compare to the fear/memories I have of certain hypo's.

diabetes uk have contact info for the trials on their website diabetes.org.uk

I would suggest speaking to your consultant. As I have lost my hypo symptoms my consultant has referred me to have a transplant. (Not that I am going to have it - just a referral to discuss it).
