My BG is sitting at 14 at the moment. Quite high for me.
Is there anything I can do to bring it down quickly or just sit it out and be more careful in the future?
I've been on holiday (returned on Sunday) and wasn't a good boy while boozing it up in Australia.
Today I had a normal breakfast (bacon and eggs) + 1 wheaten roll (naughty, I know) for lunch I had rice (I know, but this is Thailand), prawns in a black pepper sauce (made at home) and a few cups of coffee together with some 'sugar free' (possibly the reason) sweets. Then I took my kids to a play area and had a coffee + blackberry muffin (I know!). The muffin was at 15:30, it's now 19:30 and all I have had is one coffee since.
I guess that I should just stop eating anything and wait for it to come down.
An alternative would be to go to a doctor and see if he'll give you a small dose of insulin. that would bring it down into "the zone" I estimate that 2 to3 units would probably do it. Another possibility is, can you get some Starlix tablets? One would bring it down fairly fast.
Third idea, drink LOADS of water. Might flush it through.
Fourth idea
Don't do it again and scare yourself
Exercise does it for me.
I have a rowing machine, and if my BG was at 14, I could probably get it below 8 in about 90 minutes.
I always check my BG before going on the rower. In the past, my BG has gone very low on long sessions, it's a matter of knowing what intensity of exercise works for you.
What a bummer, It's an effort to try and keep my BG's down, and then when you exercise, they go low, you can't win.
You definitely should eat something before bed - but protein not carbohydrate. If you don't then your liver will assume that your are being starved and will help out by producing copious amounts of glucose, which will just push your BS right back up.
