Good morning all
I’m just after a bit of advise really with regards to some readings.
I’m prediabetic, only a reading of 44 so not too bad and I’ve gone straight into low carb.
Last night we went out for a birthday meal and I ate a chicken burger and some chips.
My reading before was 5.4, an hour after 8.4 then after 2 hours 10.8 should it really be this high for someone with pre diabetes?
Many thanks
Cath
Did you continue to test after the 2 hour mark, and how long did it take you to come down?
There is one thing I can say, however. If you have been sticking to your low carb right up to that birthday treat, your pancreas will have slowed down the production of insulin. A sudden and unexpected splurge of carbs will have taken it by surprise. This is a well known effect, and could be part of the reason for your high readings.
I did measure again another hour later, so 3 hours post eating and it was 8.4 so coming down then I went to bed lol
For the most part I’m doing ok low carb but sometimes I really struggle. I am feeling the benefits of it for sure, but just was really surprised by that last night
I had my hba1c results a few weeks ago, it came out at 44, prediabeticI think that perhaps a visit to your GP would be a good idea and get tested.

I totally agree, I didn’t think it would make that much difference but my body says otherwise. I also woke up with cold sweats which I haven’t since starting the low carb.Sorry, I forgot about that.
That's what I get for posting real late, It is a good indication though of what a carby meal does to your levels. Well worth staying away from that stuff it it were me.

I’m really new to it so I guess everything is about learning how my body responds to it
Another way of looking at it is that you have started your body's healing process by low carbing then you effectively smacked it in the face with a bun and chips.. it is complaining...
It's probably the white bread soft bun which was the main culprit. Highly processed flour with who knows what additives.
As I personally really only eat meat I tend to go to steak places.. or other meat based restaurants. Turkish is quite good.True, that’s a good way of looking at it haha
How do you guys cope with eating out? We don’t go out often so it’s not that big a deal but I need a safe option to avoid doing this
