Hello to all, I am newly joined to the forum and was diagnosed as having pre-diabetes about 9 months ago. My father was a type 1 diabetic and my grandmother was type 2 diabetic.
One GP said it was likely I had 'insulin resistance' and I was told to watch what I eat and exercise as much as possible. That's difficult anyway as I have M.E. so am restricted physically. To help me watch my glucose levels, I bought a simple blood glucose monitor from the chemist and check my levels once a week usually, the same day and time before I drink or eat anything. I have found the levels can vary from 5.5 to 7.3 and wondered if someone can explain why this should be so?
How do other people manage with diet etc as I am really struggling. I cannot eat gluten or dairy so am limited in some things anyway, so don't have pastries or sandwiches. Fruit contains a lot of natural sugars but I was told not to eat bananas, is this right? I don't have sugar except by honey in a drink which is my one luxury. Any help will be appreciated.
