Hi, I now have 3 of the 4 component parts that every Diabetic needs. I have the blood pressure meter. I have the tablets, and have ordered a tablet dispenser from Amazon. The only thing I require is the blood glucose meter. Does anybody have any recommendations as to which is the best one. There are 8 listed in the diabetes shop on this site. Due to out of stock items and such like, I have cut the choices (for me) to 2 machines GlucoRx Nexus at £16;94 and GlucoRx Go at £22:94 Now I am not concerned about price tags. The Nexus is one I like because it has the facility of being able to be connected to a PC and the other the GlucoRx Go comes attached to a pot of Nexus test strips. Anyone any opinions as to what would be the best. Some of you may even be using other machines not on the shop list. Any ideas would be appreciated. By the way, I don`t intend to start taking the tablets until I have fully researched any relevant side effects. Cheers Kenny

I wouldnt buy either - search for a codefree meter on the internet, dont feel you have to buy from this site

Code free meter on Amazon cheapest for the meter and strips VERY VERY reliable highly recommend it

Many offer a free meter but the test strips are astronomical CODE FREE. The best

I use the Accu Chek Mobile. You can buy it on Amazon for about £23 including a 50 test cartridge. You can read reviews on it there also. It's sold in ASDA pharmacies for £17 from time to time.

I use the code free though I do have others including the contour next usb which I do like but the strips are more expensive than the code free I bought mine directly from home health on line you have to state that you are diabetic when you order it so you do not have to pay VAT on it same when buying strips discount codes for strips are around on various threads on the forum I do not know them off hand but others like @Liam1955 may be able to help with that.

@Kenny3 - Hi - A lot of forum members use the SD Codefree Blood Glucose Meter because the Test Strips are the cheapest to buy - even cheaper if you buy in bulk. Here is the link:
http://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose/

If you buy in bulk Here are the discount code numbers.
5 packs = 264086. 10 packs = 975833.
For the UK we use mmol/l and remember to state you are Diabetic for vat exemption.
And delivery is very quick too.

Thanks @JohnEGreen

I have a Codefree and a Gluco RX Nexus. Both are excellent, although the Codefree is by far the best value for money and has the cheapest strips.

Whichever one you buy you must first check out the cost of replacement strips. You need a lot of them, you only need one meter. Strips can only be used on the meter they are intended for. They are not transferable. All meters have to conform to the same accuracy standards before they can be sold. I use the Codefree. I also have an Accuchek Mobile that I use in emergencies or for an occasional comparison test. The replacement strip cartridges are expensive.

For myself I was given the option to use the Gluco RX Nexus issued by my Practise Surgery over a year ago and get 100 Test Strips free on prescription. As the Surgery practise refused me anymore test strips for my Contour Next usb on prescription free, so I accepted theirs to use from then on. I am on Metformin daily and I also have been using Insulin daily for just over 2 years now.
But, I do promote the SD Codefree Meter on the Forum - (Thanks to @Bluetit1802 for all the information) I have visited the SD Codefree Meter website and if in the future I have to buy a meter and test strips? This will be the one for me.

In fact the Gluco Nexus RX was the first meter I bought when diagnosed as it was the one my doctor prescribes hoping he would prescribe me strips but no chance of that so now use the Code Free regularly.

I like the Contour Next USB which I was given for free and will sometimes splash out on strips for it.

I finally made a decision about the Blood Glucose meter, I have opted for the GlucoRx Nexus and will get it hopefully by the weekend. Time will prove if made the right choice. There are so many different models to choose from. Kenny

@Kenny3 - Well Done Kenny . That was a good choice and having a Blood Glucose Meter is the most important and vital piece of a Diabetics equipment.
