Blood glucose Targets

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
A few things have clicked in my brain from reading various threads over the last couple of days
i felt the urge to write on " Blood SugarTargets".
Firstly my reasons
I Believe absolutely that the damage done by diabetes [whatever Type] is down to excess circulating glucose , especially in the smallest blood vessels.
So logically, the only appropriate Target is Normal blood glucose. What is Normal blood glucose?
I quote from the leaflet which comes with my Freestyle Lite test strips;
" Normal fasting blood glucose range for an adult without diabetes isis less than 6.1mmol/l
2 hours after meals, the blood glucose range for an adult without diabetes is less than7.8mmol/l [ and it doesn't stay there long]
Quoting from figures in Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution; Non-diabetics typically have blood sugars falling in to the range of 4.4 - 5.6 mmol/l tending to stay close to 4.7 nearly all the time.
Since Iwant to avoid complications, I aim for those targets. I AIM, I don't always hit, but i'm getting better at it. I hardly ever measure above 6 on my meter. My Hb A1cs have kept in the 5s for years and I'm trying for the 4s, but haven't achieved it YET!
I realise I'm T2 and things are different for T1, but not necessarily easier.[ I'm married to a T1 with multiple complications which began BEFORE I learned what I know now.]
However, I'm not giving up on those targets for my own health's sake.
Some of it must be working. I'm complication and, seemingly, progression free and still using only 2 x 500mg Metformin per day 9 years after diagnosis. I have lost weight, but have been stuck for ages.
I don't think that the HCPs do anyone any favours by setting targets too high. After all a near miss of a high target may put people into the danger zone if it happens frequently. With that patient left wondering where things went wrong.
