Blood Sugar irregularities

Hello

First thanks for all the info. My husband was diagnosed as a type 2 just over a year ago and suffered many of the hurdles I read about frequently on the forum, you know lack of/conflicting information, poor communication and some wonderment that he wanted to be actively involved in his own treatment, monitor his own blood levels etc.
Low carbs have worked well for him – thanks Fergus one of your postings was the first that I read and it helped so much! He is well controlled with the help of Metformin which made a positive difference to him from day one (reading posts recently I know that is not the case for all but for him it really has hit the spot).
Now my turn, having a friend visit while my husband was doing his blood sugar she wanted hers doing, both of theirs was fine, around the 5 mark, so they did mine 9.9. OK I eat mostly the same as my other half at the same time, well I’m the one that does the cooking. So we decided we would check mine the next morning, it was still high 8.7. I have now monitored it over a number of days. My problem is this, during this time I made sure that I ate extremely carefully, but with the result that morning fasting readings varied between 6.7 and 10.2. So then I visited the doctor, then spent an evening stuffing myself full of pizza, chocolate, biscuits etc (GP frustration) and had a reading next morning of 5.7.
Sorry for the long ramble, but can anyone help explain the inconsistency. By the way, I am also visiting the toilet frequently, night and day with great urgency and often wake up in the morning feeling very hot (I thought for a while I was getting hot flushes again – left them behind about 3yrs ago). Any help greatly appreciated, as I would like to be armed before I revisit my GP, as his favourite comment is always “so I don’t understand, what are you trying to tell me”

Thanks
Bea

Hi Bea,
As long as your not going down with something even in non diabetics glucose levels can be affected by illness, stress and depression etc., I'd ask your GP for a glucose tolerance test, mind you after reading your comments it might be better to find a new GP
Good to see things are working out for your husband, and welcome to the forum

Regards
Graham

Hi Bea,

I know 3 of my friends who are none diabetic and theres are the same as yours, it is quite normal for peoples bloods to go over the 8 mark and then back down to normal, as Graham64 says, it could be down to stress or something just simple like a common cold.

I would ask your GP for a test, just for your own piece of mind, and worst come to the worse you do have diabetes yourself, it's better to find out sooner so you can start treatment before any illness occurs.

From the sounds of it, you might not be. Bea
