Hi everybody,
I just don't understand this, I have cut out carbs, no bread pasta etc,
Yesterday,
This is yesterday's menu,
Breakfast
scrambled egg, little black pepper,
Lunch,
Small cheese salad, A little bit of grated cathedral cheddar grated, 1 small tomato, 1 spring onion, 2 lettuce leaves, no mayo or anything,
Evening meal,
Beef stir fry,
Little olive oil, less than a teaspoon, thin cut beef, 1 red pepper, 3 mushrooms, ½ onion,
Then cauliflower rice, grated cauliflower, covered for 2 and ½ min in microwave,

Now this is what makes me wonder, I don't have anything before going to bed,
Waking bg, 7.8
2 hours after breakfast 7.9
2 hours after lunch 8.4
2 hours after evening meal 11.6.

To me these bg's seem high! I really don't understand why my blood sugar's are so high as I have not done anything naughty, or cheated and had some chocolate could understand that if I had! I just don't seem to be able to get blood sugars down, or if I do get them down I go down to 3-4 level and then they are too low!
I had to give in yesterday and go and see my GP As my left eye is in so much pain, and both eyes are very blurred!
I got my Mri results and there was nothing found wrong with my head! And yes they even found my brain! I had questioned if I had a brain but I do!
My GP wants to see me again on Monday to keep a eye on my eye pain! She says it is nothing to do the blood sugars!
I know that I am going to lose my eyesight or at least most of my eyesight! I fear going shopping tomorrow! As I know that my eyesight is playing up!

Hi sandy,
I am not a low carber so one may come along with better advice.
Looking at what you have eaten I have to say that it would not be enough to sustain me and if you are low carbing then why are you limiting your fat intake? As I understand it low carb has to be high fat. Larger portions of veggies may help too.
The other thing that occurs to me is that you obviously have other health problems. Do you think that the anxiety and stress you are facing has a part to play in your blood sugar levels? Many report that high levels of stress send their sugars up.
Others may have more to add and I hope this helps a little, chin up Sandy, you'll get there.

Regards, Catherine.

Hi Catherine,
I do have other health problems, I am not really stressed except when my mum calls, then i do get stressed!
i don't have a big appetite, to me that is a stretch, that is pushing myself,as i used to eat 1 meal a day before!
I am overweight, that was due to long hours at work at a very bad marriage! Now because i am no longer in work, as i was working up to 16 hours a day! I am now engaged to the most amazing gentleman!

Those BGs are very consistent, so over the day, the "no change" is good.
What did you have the day before, to start you off at nearly 8?
Certsinly stress can put your numbers up.

Hi sandy,
Emotional problems in the past have done you no favours and I am so pleased that you are now in a happy relationship. Sending you some hugs, ((((( ))))). Trial and error is the way forward and often we can eat the same thing on different days and the readings vary. Don't forget that the fairer sex also have to take hormonal levels into consideration.
Take care,
Catherine.

Hi Handar,
I just don't know every day i seem to be starting fasting level is 7-8 every morning!
The day before, i had the same except for i had chicken stew, made with chicken breast and fresh veg, that is the only difference!

Hi Catherine,
Alot of emotional damage through mum and ex husband, Dad did alot worse to me though! But my partner has been able to these past few years get me to open up!
I must admit i never thought that i would ever be able to open up to anyone, he just makes it so easy to talk to him!
I am not that stressed! As i have excepted what is happening, i excepted about 3 months ago that i may completly go blind, or maybe have the slim chance of keeping a little of my sight!
I have excepted that i am a diabetic and working towards keeping levels down and working hard to make sure i eat! Have a horrid habit of skipping meals if i can!
I have been thinking of reasons not to phone my mum, as we had words the last time we spoke, well she did the words i kept silent!
I have this horrid dry throat and dry lips and the roof of my mouth feels dry been like it for day's! I keep feeling sick as well!
I am lucky, with all that is going off i am on the pill, been on it now for 5 year's it is great have a time of month once a year that lasts one day only, bad pains but nothing else bad!
i am only 33 well nearly 34, so i am lucky in that sense with everything else that is going off!

Hana is right, your BG isn't going up by much when you eat, it's just staying up. I'd suggest this may make you a good candidate for basal insulin. OTOH if this is a recent thing have you come down with an infection which can whack your BG up sometimes even before the symptoms make themselves known.

Make sure your GP knows all about this. Looks like a referral to an opthalmologist and an Endo might be useful.

Hi Trinkwasser,
Already got a opthalmologist as seeing him at mo! Just waiting to see him again!
Blood sugars are not changing what so ever at all!
The diabetes nurse mentioned putting me on metaformin, i thought unsure about that one! I know that i am really worried! As my pain in my eyes are getting worse!
i am seeing my Gp again on monday she wants to keep a eye on my eyes until i see the specialist again!
She has given me pain killers as my eye pain is very bad! My blood sugars have been like this from the start! I can get themdown so long as i keep on the move!
I have done spring cleaning in the front room and kitchen today, blood sugar droped down to 4.1
But i was okay as was due to have dinner! I see the diabetic nurse again on the 5th of may!
What is Basil insulin? is that normal for a type 2 diabetic to go on?
I am sorry as i just don't know alot of things about diabetes

Basal means a long acting insulin like lantus or levemir that you only need to take once or twice a day. This takes the pressure off your pancreas and it may then be able to deal with the mealtime spikes on its own.

Interesting that exercise has such a marked effect. metformin and exercise both work on insulin resistance and the combination is even better than one or t'other alone. I'd go for that first. I find high intensity exercise may either send me high or low so only tend to do short intense bursts, but endurance stuff like long walks and gardening works rather well. Make sure to have some glucose or fruit juice in easy reach in case it sends you too low, you may find eating small quantities of carb with fat and protein, like oatcakes with peanut butter or cheese, before and during such work, even out your BG but it's a balancing act.
