I am a volunteer at a museum conducting tours. Twice now I have had to seek help from colleagues as during my tour I became hot and sweaty and feel as if I'm having a hypo. Once I actually vomited I felt so ill. I've read much on this site and the answer seems to be that being overheated affects us in two ways - either it increases our blood sugar levels or lowers them with the same result, sweating profusely, nausea, dizziness and an inability to concentrate. How do I know which way I'm going up or down? Will I need to be carrying a test meter with me or is there a simple solution?
I may add that my blood glucose levels are normally excellent and have been stable for many years.

Hey there, @stewartdavidson and welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear that you're having troubles but, in my newbie opinion, you've hit the nail right on the head - test, test, test. Isn't it better to know exactly what's going on with your BG than to guess whether you're going high or low? Testing takes just two minutes and empowers you with knowledge of your exact situation.

I'm sure your colleagues have noticed that you have moments where you're not quite right and would support you if you needed to slip away discreetly for a moment.

Good luck - and keep in touch!

Hi I agree with sock - if you feel odd do a test I know it could be inconvenient but it's best to find out. I read a tip recently - if your feeling well enough to do it try and estimate or evaluate the way you feel and see if it matches the test. I've learnt more that way. Last night was very muggy and I woke up shaky with cold sweats I would have bet a million that I was really low and I rushed to test I was actually 12.0 so not low. When I started to cool down a bit I realised I was ok. Wierd
