Hi
I have joined this forum on behalf of my wife who is type 1 as she prefers to ignore her diabetes as much as possible, preferring to blindly follow the (sometimes bad) advice her consultant without doing any research herself. I have read numerous books on the subject of low carb diets and diabetes related subjects, the latest of which is Dr Bernstein's 'Diabetes Solution' which I am just getting into. The thing is, Dr Bernstine says that a normal blood sugar level is between 3.9 - 5.3 mmol/l, and I have confirmed this by measuring my own. However, my wife's consultant tells her to aim to keep below 10mmol/l!Dr Bernstine says that the key to controlling diabetes and it's associated risks is to achieve normal levels (and he is living proof!). He advocates a low carb diet as the best method of achieving this which after all I have read, makes perfect sense to me. I want to help my wife look after her self in the most effective way possible so my first question to this forum is:
Why is my wife advised to keep below 10mmol/l when 'normal' is around 4.6mmol/l?
Thank You
