The Diabetic surgery I attend are dead against a patient testing their own blood sugar. They maintain that the patient will worry if the number is high and also if the number is low. I even purchased my own monitor and took it to the surgery to ask for instructions on how to use it but I was told No.

Oh my goodness! When is this madness going to stop?!
Even my surgery have started doing this.

They don't want you to see if you're going too high or too low? It's crutial that we know this.

The way we're being treated now is an insult and misjustice to diabetics!

Ask them what they do with handling the 'worry' when Type 1s test their blood. They like us to do it 4 times a day at least. Do they think that somehow Type 2s are more anxious types? Or wait.. maybe... could it be... a pathetic excuse dreamt up by the docs rather than a real reason?
sigh. Sorry for the cynical and bitter tone. I really do hate it when I hear about health care professionals being patronising like this.

PS if you need actual advice on how to work with the meter I'm sure there are lots of people who could help on here?

I know exactly what you mean. My surgery is the same.

When I told my doctor (the head of the practice) that I was considering buying a meter he said "you'd be better off spending your money on a wii " I kid you not

I think he was implying to keep fit and lose weight. I just left in disgust.
