Blood sugars from normal to HI

I think it's common for bg levels to be ok for a while when first pumping but then the fun and games start and we then have to make changes.... lol

Remember autumn is coming and you could well need more insulin than you did in the summer. Also you say that hubby has just lost his job so that is going to give you more stress and could also increase your bg levels.

Not sure what other pumpers will say but I think I would for the time being put the pump on a TBR increase and monitor the changes. You can always change the basal rates for good once you know whether the bg rise is due to stress or change in weather temp. Not sure what pump you use but you should be able to create another profile if you wanted to and keep the old profile for the summer weather.

No it isn't common for this to happen,,,

If you are using humalog insulin, get a new supply in as there has been on batch number, which apparently been causing problems something to do with storing issues within the chain, the batch as been recalled from suppliers... I see if I can find the batch number for you and pm it if I can..

Another area to look at, is check the batch number of your sets and use a different batch no if possible, sometimes set's can cause problems as in the batch is duff, not just a single set..

As I said it's not that common most pumpers once they've pinned down their basal etc, will only get a slight movement and just need to tweak basal once in a while, hence the need for regualr basal testing..

If you feel that your basal does need changing, first consider is your control being affected by more than normal stress or perhaps you are coming down with something both these can wack up insulin needs..

Sometimes it pays to hold off from making changes to your basal profile for a week or so and use the TBR until you know that this is a sort of perment change and not something caused by an underlying glitch such as stress, illness etc..

A tip

When you aren't 100% sure if it's a change of needs etc, set up another profile with your current profile and make adjustments to this profile, so if it is a glitch you always have your orginal profile to return to! It's a good idea to always to this if you'll adusting the basal profile, then when you've worked out the correct setting swap this to your old profile..

I didn't realise you are using Humalog. There has been some concerns just very recently over a batch of Humalog vials A86402 as a few people have posted msgs on another forum about high bg levels. It's only some people though as many are using the same batch and haven't had any problems. If you are using the batch, then you need to return it to the pharmacy and get them to replace it prompto especially as your bg levels are higher than you would expect them to be.

Have you not got a Humalog pen at all that you could use and some background Lantus or Levemir if the problem is the batch no you are using?

Hia dragonfly - I hope things settle for you soon. What I'm curious about (I'm getting a pump in 3 weeks time) is when you say you'll go low tonight. I thought it was much easier to reduce or even stop insulin on a pump? With the current MDI your stuck with long term effects of the 24 injection but I thought pumps were far more flexible. I'm hoping all of this will become clear over the next few months. Best wishes.
