Hi,
I am new to group but have been pushed into Diabetes by 9 years on steroids for Lupus, over weight and a strong family history. My Blood sugar tests have been climbing and I now get regular highs between 11.0-15.0 my morning tests are always low but after lunch they climb and climb. I am eating a healthy diet being a retired nurse I have some understanding of Diabetes and diet but my lab tests don't always show the same picture. My last HbA1c was 6.4 and I am having a G T T next week. I have all the Diabetic symptoms, thirst, frequency, tiredness, bouts of drowsiness when sugars high, not weight loss---I should be so lucky LOL. I have such problems with side effects of drugs, -- a lupus thing and couldn't tolerate Metformin and Glucobay, the consideration is possibly Insulin if results come back high. My question is why such a discrepency with my tests and lab tests?

Very mysterious. I presume you aren't having lots of hypos, and you've eliminated things like contamination of the test strips (eg from sticky fingers?)

As I understand it the HbA1c, whilst being a measure of control over a longer period of time, is not a true average.
In fact, based on a table (by a Bernstein fanboy - who I personally don't think much of - but presumably accurate) I'd say that 6.4 corresponds to average blood glucose of about 8.4 mmol/l
